Carlo Lorenzini, who wrote under the pen name Carlo Collodi, died in Florence on October 26, 1890. He took his pen name from the Tuscan village where his mother was born.
His story of a mischievous wooden puppet first appeared in installments in 1881 before being published as "The Adventures of Pinocchio" in 1883. It has since been translated into hundreds of languages and adapted countless times on stage and screen.
Did you know Pinocchio first from the book or from a movie?
